Moroccan crafts : Some traditional practices

 

TheTadelakt : This siding typical of Marrakech is a coating of lime based on the ochre city. With great qualities sealing, it is found traditionally in the hammams because it protects the walls from moisture.
In Arabic "tadelakt" means "polishing" and "massage" because once the lime applied by the Mâalem (master craftsman), the latter must pass a soft roller to give a smooth and light and then massaged with soap black to make it completely waterproof.
With the tadelakt there is no limit on the creation of forms and can be used in every room and even outdoors.

The meditative Stucco : Present on the arches and ceilings since the thirteenth century in Moroccan architecture, it was then made from marble dust and egg white. As always used in new construction, it is now made with plaster and water.
The stuccatoris carve plaster charge chisel with a dizzying speed to create rich designs in lace or stalactites. Performances are abstract and encourage meditation.

The Pisé : This technique known to the Phoenicians millennium is an integral part of Moroccan architecture. The principle is to build houses on land, without being supported by any piece of wood.
