The Riad was born of a symbiosis between the Berber heritage and civilization of Andalusia, more broadly, the meeting was designed the Spanish-Moorish art. The marriage of these two cultures could have happened in history when the Almoravids came to Andalusia in 1090 and at the XIIth century Almohads did the same.
The word "Riad" means "garden" and like a secret garden Moorish homes are turned inwards. Without most of the time window no outward, Riads prefer a patio out of sight and the tumult of the Medina.
So many mysteries evident in its architecture are not due to chance because Riads once served as a meeting place Saadis the sultans who harboured their harem.
Today were are seeing many Riads offering body treatments and different formulas "welfare", this practice is nothing new commercial, au contraire since antiquity in harems was a very practised by the courtesans of the sultans.
The history of Riads melee is as much romance as cruelty, remember miles and a night in which a sultan were wont to rush for the basin in its conquest of the night.
After a period of splendour, Riads fell into oblivion,
leaving time to do his work to transform them into ruin in some
Medinas of the Kingdom.
And then came a real estate phenomenon similar to that of farms
in the French provinces. Apart from that they are not British
who came to renovate and protect the Riads to make "bed
& breakfast but french into guest houses.
These investors bought french Riads in Marrakesh but also in Essaouira, Meknes, Fez and Rabat, in order to revive the magic of the past in eastern adding comfort and causing a new source of inspiration for artisans Moroccan.
